Chana Rotenberg experienced a great childhood in Antwerp, with summer vacations on the Dutch coast, train journeys to the Swiss Alps, and nice clothing that she and her siblings wore for photos on their living room couch. But there was a curtain in the middle of the home. In the middle of life. In the middle of everything. And nobody tried to approach it. It was a curtain of caution. Behind the curtain was something horrible that children were prohibitted from knowing about.
And one day, when Chana had left her warm home, and moved away from her dear parents to establish her own home in Israel, the curtain opens in front of her and she is shocked. She is exposed to the story of her parents – the story she never knew – and it turned her world upside down.
Chana Rotenberg, the daughter of Polish-born survivors, who went through hell, embarks on a journey from another world with a group of Israeli female students, with the “Nefesh Yehudi” organization, where she retraces the path of her parents and retells everything she never knew.
This is an entirely true story, full of braver and sprititual grandeur. It is a story about people who carved an impossible path in the depths of the abyss and left a legacy for those who wanted the privilege of walking on it.
Chana Rotenberg is a respected lecturer on Holocaust topics and accompanies trips to Poland. She presents the authentic story that everyone owes himself to hear, to tell their children, and to incorporate in their lives.
