Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin

Rabbi Meir Shapira z”l’s yahrzeit (anniversary of death) is the 7^th of Cheshvan; his name is engraved in gold in Jewish history due mainly to two Torah initiatives that he founded: The first was the Daf Yomi movement, the study of one page a day of the Babylonian Talmud, an idea that was brought up during the first Agudath Israel convention. His second initiative was the establishment of the great Chachmei Lublin (Sages of Lublin) Yeshiva, which changed the face of yeshivas and was called "the mother of yeshivas.” His idea and his raising of the level of the Torah ran through his whole life. The yeshiva he founded heralded a new era of learning, and the model of a boarding school yeshiva that provides its students with food and lodging became the accepted model for yeshivas all over the world. The idea of the Daf Yomi also circulated globally and it attracts Jews from all over the world. Ganzach Kiddush Hashem holds many books and materials about Rabbi Meir Shapira z”l, on the Chachmei Lublin Yeshiva, on the Daf Yomi, and on all of the rabbi’s activities for the Jewish People.
