“In the Mountains, on the Seashore, they Give Thought…”
The New York Jewish newspapers speak to the heart of the American Jew just before he leaves for vacation. And at the same time, exactly eighty years ago, the survivors of the Holocaust were suffering in the displaced persons camps and scattered throughout Europe.
This is an interesting and moving ad, from the Ganzach Kiddush Hashem archive:
(Translated from Yiddish to Hebrew by Yaakov Rosenfeld, and from Hebrew to English by Ricki Prince)
“In the mountains or at the seashore… with your family… think of the unfortunate Jews – the homeless Jews of Europe…
They have no home, they have no family…
They have nothing left but the hope that you will help them!
Can you go to the mountains or the beach – for a good time – before you have provided at least one – or more – of the homeless and miserable Jews of Europe with their basic needs, with kosher food, to keep them alive…?
Do you dare to enjoy the luxury of summer vacations… without assuaging your conscience that you are doing your duty to support your brothers and sisters in Europe…
Who are suffering terrible torments because of hunger?
Unless you want to tell them to “starve!”
Send a warm donation to the “Kosher Food Fund” of the Agudath Israel Youth.
The rescue work continues as usual… Every week thousands of kosher food packages are sent to starving European Jews through the “Refugee and Immigration Department” of the Agudath Israel Youth, which has already sent over a million pounds of kosher food to Europe over the past year. To continue… further this holy work we urgently need $300,000… With your hearts and hands you can help keep them alive!

“The Jews of Lodz are Requesting to be Sent Judaica”
Agudath Israel in America has received an urgent request from Jews. It is necessary to send a large shipment of tallises (prayershawls), tefillin (phylacteries), siddurs (prayerbooks), tzitzits (ritual fringes) and mezuzahs (for the doorpost). Therefore, we ask every Jew who is in possession of one of these sacred items to send these items for the holy cause.
Quickly help your brothers with holy items!
